Some Topics Misunderstood “...I went to an awesome church growing up and wish I could find another one just like it. I think my issue is that I just want to interpret the bible and the word of god the way I want to and not have someone tell me that I am wrong. that is a big thing that I have found in a lot of churches that we have been to. I am hoping to find a church that doesn't tell me I am wrong...just feels too judgemental to me...and I hope your church is the one that will make me feel comfortable in my beliefs…” – Old Paths written by Jarrod Jacobs

Once, the Spirit had not yet been given… (John 15:26-27) "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. "And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning. (NKJV)
5
After… After…Jesus was glorified (John 7:38-39) "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (NKJV)
6
Sent… Sent…Soon after Jesus Returned to the Father (John 16:7) "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (NKJV)
7
Sent… Sent…by the Father (John 14:16-17) "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (NKJV)
8
His Mission…to bear Witness (John 15:26) "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
9
His Mission…to teach the Apostles “all things” (John 14:26) "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (NKJV)
10
Once, the Spirit had not yet been given… (John 16:7-13) "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: "of sin, because they do not believe in Me; "of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; "of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

His Message…Preached First at Jerusalem (Luke 24:45-49) And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, "and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. "And you are witnesses of these things. "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high." (NKJV)
12
His Message…Power in the Form of the Spirit (Acts 1:4-5) And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." (NKJV)
13
His Message…Power Enabled the Apostles to Become Witnesses of (Acts 1:8) "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (NKJV)
14
His Message…Promise Fulfilled (Acts 2:33) "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. (NKJV)
15
Manifestations of the Spirit…Characteristics of (Acts 2:2-4) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (NKJV)
16
Manifestations of the Spirit…Characteristics of (Acts 2:5-6) And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. (NKJV)
17
Manifestations of the Spirit…Recipients of (John 15:26-27) "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. "And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning. (NKJV)
18
Manifestations of the Spirit…Effects of (Acts 11:17-18) "If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?" When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life." (NKJV)
19
Manifestations of the Spirit…Effects of (Acts 10:44) While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. (NKJV)

Why Miracles on Pentecost and at Cornelius’ Household? 1.To confirm Peter was telling the message of God (Mark 16:20) And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

Why Miracles on Pentecost and at Cornelius’ Household? 1.To confirm Peter was telling the message of God 2.To convince Peter of the message 3.To convince the Jews that the gospel had been delivered to the gentiles 4.To fulfill prophecy (Joel 2:28-29) "And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 24
Miracles on Pentecost and at Cornelius’ Household Very Similar (Acts 11:15) "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. (NKJV)
25
Tongues at Cornelius’ Household: A Language Understandable by Men (Acts 10:46) For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, (NKJV) (1 Corinthians 14:2) For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him… (1 Corinthians 14:13) Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret… (1 Corinthians 14:9) “…unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.”
26
Miraculous Manifestations Would Cease Soon After the Apostles (1 Corinthians 13:8) Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. (NKJV)
