* ¶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. * 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. * 28 ¶ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

* The Holy Spirit * “Likewise the Spirit also” * The Holy Spirit groans, too! * God is on our side. * “Helps” * sunantilambanetai- present tense- to take hold of with, to support, to aid * Lk. 10:40

* “weaknesses” – infirmity, frailty, imperfection, suffering * “we do not know what we should pray for as we ought” * Our main weakness is the inability to pray as we ought about any of our weaknesses. * II Corinthians 12:9,10 * Illustrates this weakness AND prayer RE-directed by the Lord.
7
* 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. * 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. * 9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. * 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

* “He makes intercession”- present tense * “With groanings which are too deep for words or sounds.” * (beware- these are not noticeable- He groans in us- we do not groan! No tongues here!) * “According to the will of God” * The Spirit is in sync with the Father. They know each other’s thoughts, and their will is one. I Cor. 2:11 * Illustrated in the prayers of Christ in the garden. He knew the Father’s will. They were in sync also.
