Invented in 1200 AD By: Unknown History and Modern Day’s Spinning Wheel By: Kyra Hokkanen & Chloe’ Giles
2
Topics that will be covered. About invention! Why it was invented and how it works? Where did it come from? What did it look like and what does it look like now? How they built it and how they build it now? What steps do they take when processing?
3
Spinning Wheel It was invented in Baghdad in 1270. There are many types of Spinning Wheels including; The Great Wheel, The Saxony and Upright Wheels, The Flax Wheel.
4
To spin Cotton, Wool, and other fibers. To make String, Clothing, Gifts, and Packaging. To simplify making clothing, and other items. How it works: The acceptance of rotor spinning wheel, all yarns were produced by aligning fibers through drawing techniques and then twisting the fiber together. With rotor spinning, the fibers in the roving are separated, thus open end, and then wrapped, and then twisted as the yarn is drawn out of the rotor cup.
5
Where did it come from? It came from India to Mesopotamia. Then from Mesopotamia to Asia. From Asia to China. China to Europe. Europe to USA.
6
Older Newer Version What it looked like vs. what it looks like now.
7
What steps to take when processing the fibers? Rippling: Removing the seeds by drawing handfuls of Flax through the widely spaced teeth of a rippling comb. Retting: This process begins to separate the fibers from the central woody core of the plant. Braking: Handfuls of Flax are placed on the Flax brake between the upper and lower arms. The upper piece is lowered, crunching the Flax in between.
8
James Hargreaves He was credited for the invention of the “Spinning Wheel” Invented the “Spinning Jenny” He was a weaver, carpenter, and an inventor in Lancashire, England.
9
The Spinning Wheel was an invention that made useful items for families and friends, and also military services. It also made making items easier to craft for things or events.
