2 Objective  To promote a team approach to deliver H1N1 vaccination program in general practice

3 Practice Preparation  Plan a Practice meeting  Determine a strategy to implement H1N1 vaccination program  Arrange appointment schedule  Consider practice capacity/room availability  Promote practice vaccination plan (waiting room posters, “on hold” message, newsletter, patient handouts)  Staff training

4 Pre-Vaccination Procedures  Prepare an anaphylaxis response kit  Cold chain management  Pre-vaccination screening  Consent policy  Documentation (QLD health requirements & practice)  Develop/prepare resources (documentation “shortcut”)

5 Practice equipment  Sharps containers  Needles/syringes will be provided  Container to store prepared doses (to protect from light, foil)  Consider seating requirements  Consent forms/patient information sheets (provided)  Discard 2009 seasonal influenza vaccine

6 Who to vaccinate?  Database search for at risk groups  PEN CAT Tool Recipe (GPGC website)  Recall target groups  Can be offered to anyone 10 years and over who would like to be vaccinated  Can also be provided to overseas travellers who request vaccination (DO NOT need to have a medicare card)

7 Administration of H1N1 vaccine  On Arrival Book patients in, provide patient information leaflet/consent form  Consultation Pre-vaccination screening checklist, check/document allergies (severe egg, neomycin, polymyxin), explain risks/benefits, obtain and record consent  Vaccine service provider Prepare vaccine as per MDV protocol, request patient to wait 15 minutes after administration
