4 Prevention & Protection CFOA P&P OBJECTIVES (1) influence the production of legislation, aimed at fire safety in particular and at wider community safety (including road safety) at national, European and UN level. Promote, create and maintain partnerships with other stakeholders and other bodies who, together can further drive down community risk. inform/influence and ensure the production of technical standards aimed at modifying a wide range of risks to firefighters and the community as a whole. ensure the allocation of fire service resources to projects and initiatives designed to influence risk reduction in communities.

5 Prevention & Protection CFOA P&P OBJECTIVES (2) provide evidence of successful approaches to improved community safety in order to secure and protect the resources dedicated to this work. ensure the continued development of skills and competence in technical fire safety by encouraging providers of development opportunities to offer a range of quality training in this field. commission research into areas of prevention and protection for the benefit of the service as a whole. determine levels of understanding of and compliance with the Fire Safety Order

7 Prevention & Protection National Fire Safety Committee Purpose: “to consider all matters appertaining to fire safety, engineering, protection and prevention and its associated legislation.”

8 Prevention & Protection PREVENTION Although not a full CFOA committee there is a Community Safety Task Group that deals with community safety prevention issues and provides updates to the full NFSC.

9 Prevention & Protection Reasons for Change (1) Provide the opportunity for an equal airing of issues from both sides of the workstream; Provide a clear identity for each side of the workstream that allows the appropriate skills to be deployed;

10 Prevention & Protection Reasons for Change (2) Manage workloads in a more structured way; Provide a conduit for information and ideas from regional level committees (NB: this will mean encouraging the establishment of regional forums in each of the two areas of Prevention and Protection)

11 Prevention & Protection Reasons for Change (3) Provide evidence of the impact of the FSO and establish a website for Members detailing prosecutions to date. Assist FRS in the identification of impact assessments of community safety activity in order to promote a national 'register' of successful interventions.

13 Prevention & Protection PROTECTION - AIMS Assist in the delivery and implementation of the Fire Safety (RRO) Order, ensuring that enforcement is effective, transparent and proportionate. Provide an integrated national framework for the delivery of core fire safety policies and procedures for practitioners based on the prevention, protection and response model. Work towards the introduction of appropriate water based fire suppression systems in a wider range of premises. Ensure effective partnership working with all stakeholders in the fire protection industry including the more widespread use of third party accreditation schemes.
