1
From Deserts to Rainforests
2
Biome: a large group of ecosystems (SPCEB) that share a climax community All biomes are not the same Tundra, tropical rainforest, desert Biomes usually contain same plant life Deserts usually have same animals and plants 2 most important factors in biomes are temperature and precipitation
4
75% of Earth’s surface is water Largest biome 2 types Marine (saltwater/ocean) Freshwater (lakes, rivers, ponds)
5
Estuary: a coastal body of water where rivers meet oceans Fresh water meets salt water Can have an interesting population of animals here that can “tolerate” some salt/fresh water
6
In food webs, producers (grass) was on the bottom of the pyramid In aquatic biomes, “plankton” are on the bottom They are the base of the aquatic food chain Plankton: tiny orgnsms. That float in waters of the “photic zone”
9
Land biomes Closer to equator, biomes get warmer and wetter/drier Further away from equator Colder Several different types of biomes Temperate deciduous forest, taiga, tundra, desert, tropical rainforest, grassland
