2. The Romanian flag has three vertical stripes whereas the Polish flag has two horizontal ones … BUT both countries have a red one ! The shape of the two countries is somewhat similar and both have an opening on the sea. The names of the seas both start with a B … BUT it’s the Baltic sea for Poland and the Black Sea for Romania and the former is in the North –West and the latter in the South-East. The Baltic Sea The Black Sea Poland has a little over 38 million inhabitants. The capital town is Warsaw. Romania has 21.5 million. The capital town is Bucarest.

13. In both countries folklore seems to be very important : traditional dances and music are still performed on various occasions. Polish dance Romanian dance

14. The dark clouds of World War I and II In 1914, Poland did not exist but Polish territory was split between Austro-Hungary, German Empire and Russian Empire. After their fall, Poland became an independent republic. Romania fought against Germany, Austria, Bulgaria and Turkey when it was an empire. 1945 : Yalta and the dark years of communism for both countries. During WWII, Źarki was destroyed and the people were thrown out of the town. There was a concentration camp there. Satu Mare, on the contrary, was untouched by World War II. 1989 In Romania, it was the end of dictatorship and two years later, the country became a parliamentary republic, had a new constitution that ensured separation of powers, several political parties and a market economy. In Poland, it meant democratic institutions and the implementation of market economy principles.

15. Romanians tend to emigrate to Spain and Italy, probably because of the languages that have many similarities with Romanian. Polish people emigrate to Great Britain. Emigration Most popular jobs Cashier ? Hairdresser ? Plumber ? Mechanic ? Shop-assistant ?

16. Common clichés on Romanians & Poles Romanians are thieves, immoral, not educated, interested in money and power. They like to drink. We contributed a lot to modern aviation. Without us, baseball would not exist… AND we were a great threat to the Romans in the past ! Polish people are drunkards, lazy, talkative, impolitThey are very religious and hospitable. We like drinking and partying. We are hospitable and helpful. Sometimes we are lazy but we can be good workers. Now, remember that clichés are commun and overused and one of the goals of Comenius is to fight against them !
