Increment 25/26 Cube Lab Ops TIR Overview Oct. 6, 2010 Four* new Modules (3 Aluminum Modules, 1 LMA pack) MSFC Ops Lead: Andrea Wade, andrea.m.wade@nasa.govandrea.m.wade@nasa.gov PD Team: Cube Lab, cubelab.ops@gmail.comcubelab.ops@gmail.com

Summary of Current Ops Cube Lab Frame-1 and Frame-2 successfully installed Inc-23/24. – Frame-1, ER4, Locker 3 – Frame-2, ER4, Locker 7 Module-1 thru -4 successfully operated (Module-1 returns on ULF5, Mod- 3 & 4 staged for return on ULF6).

Baselined Products Procedures and planning models already in place for: – CUBELAB-MOD-RECONFIG (open locker and add/remove/rearrange Modules) 2.001 CUBE LAB MODULE RECONFIGURATION – CUBELAB-DATA-CLCT (crew transfers data to laptop for downlink) 2.002 CUBE LAB MODULE DATA COLLECTION

Summary of New Ops Transfer of Module-7 LMA Pack 2 (Ziplock bag) to ISS; stowed in unpowered Frame. * Activation of Module-9 “glow stick” experiment; stowed in unpowered Frame. Installation of Module-10; standard installation in powered Frame with Data Collections. Checkout of Module-5 “microscope” hardware; stow in unpowered Frame.

Module 7 Ascent: ULF6 Description: 2 LMA (Liquid Mixing Apparatus) trays transferred to ISS; already activated on shuttle. LMA’s will be contained together in a Ziplock bag, and be housed in an inactive Cube Lab Frame until descent. Operations: Transfer LMA Pack-2 to ISS (Ziplock only; aluminum Module box remains on shuttle). Deactivate LMA Pack-2 immediately before stow for Descent Procedures: 2.001 CUBE LAB MODULE RECONFIGURATION (baselined). 2.007 CUBE LAB MODULE-7 DEACTIVATION (new).

Module 9 Ascent: HTV-2 Description: A glow-stick experiment. Module contains mixing tube assemblies to be activated on-orbit. Operations: Requires opening the Cube Lab Module and interfacing with the triple-containment system to break the glow-sticks (flex outer tubing to break inner tubing). This does not require any power/data transfers; installed in an unpowered Cube Lab Frame. Procedures: 2.001 CUBE LAB MODULE RECONFIGURATION (baselined). 2.009 CUBE LAB MODULE-9 ACTIVATION (new). cerium(III) nitrate hexahydrate solution Sodium hydroxide (0.5, 1, 2, 3M)solution Glass (completely contained) Ampoule Bonded Teflon End Cap (Level 1) Bonded Teflon End Cap (Level 1) Teflon Tube (Level 1) Polyolefin Shrink Tubing (Level 2) Heat Sealed Polyethylene Bag (Level 3) Operation: Flex outer tubing to break inner ampoule

Current* Module-9 Pics

Module 10 Ascent: HTV-2 Description: Plant growth experiment monitored by internal USB camera. Camera takes frequent images to be reconstructed on the ground as Time-Lapse photography. Operation: Self-contained experiment, no unique ops. Module may go up inside a plastic wrapper to ensure no moisture gets in and starts early seed growth – this covering will need removed before installation in Cube Lab Frame** Procedures: 2.001 CUBE LAB MODULE RECONFIGURATION (baselined). 2.002 CUBE LAB MODULE DATA COLLECTION (baselined). 100 x 100 x 100mm Aluminum box Electronics unit with a fluid container 10 cc water bottle Plant Growth Chamber USB Camera Electronics Sealed USB Type B connector

Module-10 Specimens: Mouse-ear Cress (Arabidopsis thaliana) Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica) Alyssum (Lobulario maritime) Sweet Basil (Osimum basilicum) Marigold (Tagetes erecta) Wisconsin Fast Plant (Brassica rapa)

Ascent: HTV-2 Description: A USB microscope, intended to be part of the Cube Lab facility and remain on- board for future Module experiments. Operations: Installed in an unpowered Cube Lab Frame. After launch, microscope will undergo checkout activities (setup, checkout, stow). Procedures: 2.001 CUBE LAB MODULE RECONFIGURATION (baselined). 2.005 CUBE LAB USB MICROSCOPE SETUP AND STOW (new). 5.001 CUBE LAB USB MICROSCOPE (new). 1.002 CUBE LAB USB MICROSCOPE CHECKOUT (new). 5.002 USB MICROSCOPE EXAMPLES: IN/OUT OF FOCUS (new). Module 5 200 x 200 x 100 mm Aluminum box 1 USB Microscope 1 USB Camera and Cable 1 Microscope Slide Kit (Note: all plastic slides)

Module-5 Checkout USB Microscope interfaces with Windows OS (no unique software).

Planning Products Initial planning requirements submitted in Planning Data Set ECR for 25/26, baselined 5/13/10. TST held 6/28/10 to discuss new OBT requirements OCR updates since then: – Cublall…013, “Cube Lab Inc 25/26 Ops” – Cublall…014, “Cube Lab Inc 25/26 Ops (Continued)” – Cublall…017, “Inc 25/26 Cube Lab Data Collections”
