www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 EGI-InSPIRE www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Resource allocation Małgorzata Krakowian 1

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 The main goals are: Attract new users and allocate them some grid resources Provide users with a simplified procedure to find grid resources for their needs and by means of a central unique reference point

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 General process

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Actors: EGI Provider NGIs that can directly decide on resource allocation on a pool of resources on specific sites NGIs that can coordinate resources allocation with their sites sites that are identified to allocate resources by passing its NGI Requirement: registered/certified/production in GOC DB

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Actors: EGI Customers 1.Regional –Existing VO –New VO 2.International –Existing VO –New VO Requirement: Should be registered in Operations Portal. New VOs might require additional support.

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Actors: Regional VO Should be up to NGIs to help the VO and allocate resources within NGI EGI provides single point of contact for resource allocation for Customers

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Actors: International VO EGI provides –Single point of contact for resource allocation for their Customers –Negotiation and signing procedures –Monitoring –Reporting

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Resource allocation models 1.Open market 2.Broker 3.Freedom of choice Models determines the role of EGI in the process. We can apply different models for different requests: Mature VO vs New VO „Big” request vs „Small” request or NGIs.

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Model 1 – Open market Interaction Supervision EGI Providers’ resources and EGI Customers’ requests are published on an open market – are visible for everyone. EGI regulates and supervises the market. It determines the rules (e.g. procedures) of the market and acts as a referee in case of agreement violation/negotiations.

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Model 2 – Broker Interaction EGI Providers’ resources and EGI Customers’ requests are visible to EGI. EGI matches EGI Providers’ resources to EGI Customers’ requests needs.

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Model 3 – Freedom of choice Interaction Support EGI Providers’ resources and EGI Customers’ requests are visible for everyone. The parties have freedom to decide how they want to negotiate resources and under which condidions (no regulation on EGI side). EGI role is to support EGI Providers and/or EGI Customers only if needed. E.g. providing tool for resource allocation, helping in request fulfilment etc.

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 High level processes Request submition Request veryfication Negotiation Contract Provision Running Monitoring Final reporting and evaluation

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Issues: –With whom should be signed SLA? –Some sites may want to put into the market their offer before reuquest arrive –When we need to involve other parties than RC and VO in the process?

www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Luciano proposal Comments: We should involve in the process as less people as possible. Each person is a possible bottleneck in the process. We should automate this process as much as possible. To make it clear, easy and not overloaded with bureaucracy. For small calls (e.g. from small new VO which want only to check if EGI is useful for them) this process is –too political –too time consuming
