Your Online Profile Presenting the best of YOU!
2
Social Networking, Are you online? Many students today have profiles on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter. Do you know that what you put on these sites is considered PUBLIC INFORMATION? Does your profile represent a complete and ACCURATE picture of who you are?
3
True or False As a class, decide which statements are true, and which ones are false. 1.Employers and College admissions officials are checking applicants’ profiles online. 2.Thirty-four percent of hiring managers have admitted to having chosen NOT to hire someone based on what they found in profiles. 3.Many job seekers and potential students are using their profiles to obtain a job or admission to colleges.
4
Activity Work with a partner or small group to create a list of do’s and don’ts pertaining to your internet profile(s). Share responses as a class.
5
Other Profile Do’s and Don’ts Keep your profile updated Keep your profile positive; don’t “badmouth” Join groups SELECTIVELY (while you may join a group to be harmlessly silly, but others may not see things that way!) Don’t mention a new job search if you’re still employed by someone else Carefully edit your pictures and any “tagged” pictures Don’t forget that others can see your friends, and that could also be a reflection on you
