SIMPLE SENTENCES A sentence with ONE independent clause Can stand alone with all five components of a sentence: 1.Capital letter 2.Punctuation 3.Subject 4.Verb/Predicate 5.Makes Sense Four basic formulas

SV Has one subject and one verb I sang a song. My dog barked at cars. My son loves Ninja Turtles.

SSV Has 2 subjects and 1 verb My husband and dad are engineers. Mr. Sutton and Mrs. Davis are the principals. Marlin and Dory swam in the ocean.

SVV Has 1 subject and 2 verbs My mom drove her car and went shopping. She cleaned the house and made dinner. The kids walked to class and sat in their seats.

SSVV Has 2 subjects and 2 verbs My mom and dad flew on a plane and went to a wedding. Miss Robinson and I left school and saw a movie. Sally and John ran a 5k and had dinner.

Label the following: 1.I had a yard sale and bought a Christmas tree. 2.Johnathan slept at Nana’s house. 3.Joseph and Munster went outside. 4.Sarah and Tyler ate breakfast and cleaned the house. 5.The girls fought over the toy. 6.Tyler drove to the store and bought Diet Cokes.
