2 Kick  Kick boxing or kickboxing is a combat sport that combines kicking techniques typical of the oriental martial arts and punches of boxing.

3 History  The term "kickboxing" was invented in Japan during the 1960s.  They decided to eliminate the elbows and knees.  They wore shorts as in boxing and "kick boxing“ was born.

4  In Japan, in 1993, a tournament called K-1 was organized, where "K" stands for Karate, Kempo and Kickboxing. In this tournament, the rules are those of kickboxing, but also knees can be used.

5  The intent was to put on the same ring athletes with different martial arts and fighting sports with rules which allowed them to match up.

6  The K-1 became the most important tournament in the world. The term "K- 1" has now taken on the meaning of a combat sport in its own right, the world's best athletes, meet in Tokyo for the final. The rules of the tournament are called K-1 Style

7  In kickboxing the fighters fight on the box ring or on the tatami. The standard measurements are 6 metres by 6 o 8 metres by 8.

9 techniques The techniques used in kickboxing are:  Jab: straight shot stretching your arm forwards, to hit the face or body of the opponent.

10  Hook - Punch landed keeping the arm bent, like a hook, turning the shoulder and waist without losing sight of the opponent.

11  Uppercut: striking upwards, usually to hit the opponent's chin, although it may also be directed to the torso or abdomen.

12 Kicking techniques The basic kick techniques used in kickboxing are :  front kick : bringing the leg to the chest and then stretching it forward, to strike with the forefoot, or more rarely, the heel.

13  Side kick : similar to the front kick but striking from the side, rotating the support leg by 45 degrees and going to hit each other using the side of the foot.

14  Roundhouse kick: striking by moving the leg with a circular trajectory, hitting with the shin. It is accomplished by twisting the whole body, starting from the supporting foot.
