Important Milestones 1994 - Celtel Licenced to Cellular Service Nov 1997 – Bids for SNO Apr 1998 – SNO Licence Awarded to MTN Oct 1998 – MTN Launches GSM service Jun’99 – Mar 2000, Final Bidding process in Privatisation of UTL Jun 2000 – 51% of UTL sold to U-Com Consortium (Detecon, Telecel, Orascom) Establishing and administering a fund for rural communications development
