Seafloor Network KM3NeT Italia Strategy, Milestones and Cost R. Papaleo 22 june 2012
2
Assumptions & Constrains Finance and schedule – Deployment within Dec 2014 – Investment within the PON 2011 framework (all the invoices must be paid before the end of march 2015) Technology – The seafloor network must be able to host DOM and SOM (Single Optical Module) Detection Units
3
Scope of work SJB#1 SJB#2 SJB#3 SJB#4 Primary JB 8 Outputs Capo Passero Termination Frame Capabilities: 20 Optical Fibers G 655 10 KV 50 kW 8 Outputs
4
Strategic Plan Technical Specification – To check if possible to have a single project of JB in order to host DUs (string or tower) – Define a common document with all the IN/OUT interfaces of the string and tower Project of the underwater network – Single JB – JB for String and JB for tower
5
Strategic Plan (2) Manufacturing – Solution single JB: Manufacture all the underwater network – Solution JB for tower and JB for string Manufacture #2 JB for towers – If the string project will be validated on time other #2 JB for string will be manufactured within the PON project – If the string project will be on delay other #2 JB for tower will be manufactured whitin the PON project
6
How to go ahead (1) Prepare a document with all the info necessary for the project of the JB – Optical / Electrical constrains of the Dus – Data transmission architectures for the 2 solutions (string and tower) – Mechanical interface (ROV wet mateable connector type, …..) INPUT FOR THE DU PROJECT When: before the middle of july Who: CPPM INFN NIKHEF
7
How to go ahead (2) Decide if it is possible to have a single design for the JBs or not When: before the end of july Who: CPPM INFN NIKHEF
8
How to manage sea operations? Proposal Long term rental of a offshore vessel full equipped – Crane, … – Crew – ROV (4000 m) COUGAR with LARS system Vessel type: Anchor Handling Vessel Gross tonnage:2,283 tons Summer DWT:2,094 tons Length:70 m Beam:16 m Draught:4.8 m Example: 6 months on 2 years
9
Preliminary Cost Analysis The seafloor network cost analysis includes also the interlink cables SJB - DUs
10
Preliminary schedule Preliminary schedule – Single JB solution Preliminary schedule – 2 different JB architecture (tower and string)
11
Preliminary Cash Flow Analysis 2012-2015 Note: all the payment will be done before march 2015
