Recap: Starter On whiteboards: Give reasons why organisers need to be knowledgeable to keep people safe. Name one method of safeguarding. What is a risk assessment? Why do individuals want to take part in challenging activities?

Aims: Understand the effects and needs of different demands from different activities. Know how the demands of an activity can have an effect on an individual. Understand the benefits gained by high activity levels.

Activity Needs An activity that involves some form of contest, rivalry or game. Usually involves commitment to training and competing. Any form of play, amusement or relaxation performed as games, sports or hobbies. CompetitiveRecreational

Compare: Make notes… Highly committed. Dedicate time to the activity. Dedicated time to physical training. Physically demanding. County or international players dedicate a lot of time. Not as demanding. No special preparation or training. At a convenient time for you. Less physical demands. More suited to adults with full time jobs and less time. Activity Effects Benefits of high levels of participation: Health benefits if done on a regular basis. Enjoyment of The social Aspect. Little effect for low or infrequent Levels of activity. Satisfaction of successful Competition. Improved body tone, reduced stress levels, Reduces chances of diseases.

Questions time: PEEL! 1) What demands would be on someone playing recreational bowls? (2 marks) Ans: A person playing recreational bowls would be doing this for amusement or relaxation. It would require little demand in terms of time for training or physical demands because you do it when it’s a convenient time and bowls is a low exertion activity. 2) What demands would be on someone playing competitive rugby? (3 marks) Ans: A person playing competitive rugby would be doing so for the enjoyment of the contest. The person would need to be highly committed and would have to dedicate a lot of time to training and travelling to games. Rugby is also a physically demanding sport and would be very demanding on fitness. 3) What activity effects would someone experience if they were doing high levels of participation? (2 marks) Ans: There would be many effects on someone doing high levels of participation. They would experience health benefits such as reduced stress levels and reduced diseases. They would also benefit from they social aspect of playing sport and the satisfaction of being successful.
