6 What is Early Years Entitlement (EYEF)? The government provides funding for all three and four year old children, starting from the funding period after their third birthday until they start school (usually at statutory school age – the term following their fifth birthday), to attend an Ofsted registered early years and childcare setting. Such settings include pre-schools, nurseries, certain childminders, school nursery classes and nursery schools. These children qualify for 15 hours of free Early Years Entitlement per week for up to 38 weeks per year, during school term time. The full 15 hours must be used over at least 2 days, a minimum of 2 ½ hours and maximum 10 hours per day.

7 A limited number of 2 year old children living in the Borough of Reading are eligible to receive a funded early years place. If eligible you can have up to 10 hours of childcare per week for 38 weeks a year. This can be used flexibly to meet your family’s needs although the minimum session length per day is 2 hours and the maximum is 8 hours. Funding begins the term following a child’s 2nd birthday. Income Support / Income Based Job Seekers Allowance /An income-related Employment and Support Allowance Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Child Tax Credit (provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) that as of 6 April 2011 does not exceed £16,190 The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
