1 your Drill your own disc brake rotors ! Be the envy of your friends, make your bike standout ! BMAC Tech Tips March 5, 2016

2 Many older bikes have solid brake discs CB750 Honda front disc shown above

3 Why drill holes in a brake disc ? -Increases disc cooling -Reduces weight -Greatly improves wet weather braking -Looks really cool !

4 Remove and clean disc

5 -Develop your hole pattern -Assymetrical patterns are best

6 -Check the internet for patterns -Symmetrical patterns can create resonances and noise while braking -I designed my own curved 3 hole, 4 hole, 5 hole pattern -Then I added a 2 hole pattern between the 3/4/5 pattern

7 Final pattern chosen

8 You’ll need a hammer & center punch

9 Center punch the pattern onto the disc

10 -Use a HSS 1/8” drill for pilot drilling -Follow up with 1/4” drill for final hole size

11 -You will need a cutting fluid -And WEAR YOUR SAFTEY GLASSES !

12 -Set drill speed to lowest setting -Drill all holes with 1/8” drill first -Then follow with 1/4” drill

13 -Use a 90 degree countersink bit -Countersink all holes, both sides

14 - Again use slowest drill press speed

15 - Example of countersinking depth

16 - You’re all done !
