What the heck?? Importūnus autem dē Maecēnāte ēiusque amīcīs rogābat. “Unusquisque nostrum,” respondēbam, “apud Maecēntātem locum suum habet.” The boor, however, asked about Maecenas and his friends. “Each one of us,” I answered, “has his place at the house of Maecenas.”

The Reflexive Adjective A reflexive adjective refers (reflexes) back to the subject of the sentence. – Reflectō – bend back in Latin S p e e l l i t o u t – 3 rd person pronouns that are indicating possession by the subject of the sentence use a reflexive adjective (suus, sua, suum). – 3 rd person pronouns that are indicating possession by someone other than the subject use a genitive pronoun (ēius; eōrum, eārum)

Some examples Horātius verba eīus nōn amat. Horace does not like his words. Whose words? The boor, this is implied Rōmānī mīlitēs suōs cūrant. The Romans take care of their soldiers. Whose soldiers? The Romans

Suus, sua, suum the Basics Suus, sua, suum – Decline like a 1 st and 2 nd Decl. Adj. Functions like an adjective – Matches the word that it modifies in case, number, gender – Works exactly like 1 st and 2 nd declension possessive adjectives
