Winch dyeing m/c The dyeing machine derives its name "Winch" as the fabric rope gets circulated in the machine by way of a mechanical action of a horizontal rotor or reel, called as a winch or sometimes wince. The cross‐section of the winch rotor may be circular or elliptical.

Piece Winch (or beck) Dyeing
Fabric pieces are sewn end to end and this rope-like form is dyed in a relaxed state. It is most widely used on knitted, woolen and worsted fabrics.
5
Uses of winch dyeing m/c :
In case of rope dyeing. It is suitable for knit fabric dyeing. For maintaining proper tension it is suitable. Tension exerted on fabric is less than jigger,

Winch Dyeing Machines This is a rather old dyeing machine for fabrics in rope form with stationary liquor and moving material. The machine operates at a maximum temperature of 95-98°C. The liquor ratio is generally quite high (1:20-1:40). The system includes a vat with a front slant side acting as chute for the folded rope, while the rear side is entirely vertical. A perforated separating compartment, positioned at a distance of cm from its vertical side, creates an interspace for heating and for adding reagents. Heating can be supplied by means of direct or indirect steam heating. The fabric motion is driven by a circular elliptic winch coated with a special blanket to avoid the fabric slipping during the dyeing operation with subsequent possible fabric scratches. The rope to be dyed then passes through a rack on the vertical perforated divider, which ensures the separation of the various folds of the rope and avoids possible entangling; the rope is then transferred onto a cylinder, which guides the fabric during the lifting from the vat carrying out a partial squeezing with subsequent liquor exchange.
15
Winch Dyeing Machines The rope (carried by the winch) folds while passing through the liquor. Obviously when the fabric is loaded into the machine it is necessary to sew the tail with the head of the rope (the fabric must be sewn according to the grain direction). The maximum motion speed of the fabric must be approx. 40 m/min., since higher speeds could cause peeling; an excessive stretch during the lifting stage could cause deformation while high circulation speed could cause excessive rope beating with subsequent entanglement. The fabric must not remain folded and kept stationary inside the vat for more than 2 minutes to avoid possible defects or wrinkles; therefore the rope must be relatively short. The winch dyeing method is suitable for all fabrics, except those which tend to originate permanent creases or which could easily distort under the winch stretching action (due to their fibre or structure composition).
16
Winch Dyeing Machines This machine is used preferably for pre-dyeing treatments (scouring, washing, bleaching) since the high liquor ratio ensures excellent results; when used for dyeing treatments this system requires high energy consumption, extensive use of auxiliaries, dyes and water, which leads to high operating costs; furthermore, an inaccurate temperature control (the liquor does not move and the heating system is assembled only on one end) and the limited freedom of the rope folds could negatively affect the dyeing results. This is one of the oldest systems used for finishing treatments, but it proves to be still extremely functional thanks to its flexibility, above all for scouring and bleaching treatments to be carried out on small production runs. This system can also be used for carrying out continuous washing processes; the fabric is loaded from one side (A side, Picture 47), driven through the machine with a spiral motion (by means of the rack) and then unloaded from the opposite side (B side).

Description and Dyeing Method of Winch Dyeing Machine:
The basic principle of all winch dyeing machines is to have a number of loops or ropes of the fabric in the dye bath, these ropes are of equal length , which are mostly immersed in the liquor in the bath. The upper part of each rope runs over two reels which are mounted over dye bath. At the front of the machine, above the top of the dye liquor , is a smaller reel, which is called jockey or fly roller. The fly roller remain free wheeling along with fabric rope. At the back of winch tank is the winch wheel, which pulls the fabric rope from the dye bath over the jockey reel for dropping in the dye bath for immersion.
18
Description and Dyeing Method of Winch Dyeing Machine:
4. From the dropped location, the fabric rope travels back. to be lifted and fed to winch wheel. 5. The dyeing process on winch dyeing machines is based on higher M:L as compared with other dyeing machines. 6. The process is conducted with very little tension . 7. The total dyeing time is lengthier as compared to other machines.
20
Disadvantages of Winch Dyeing:
1. Difficult to maintain uniform temperature. 2. Due to high liquor ratio (1:40) product cost is high. 3. Uneven dyeing due to folding. 4. Discontinuous process. 5. More fabric can’t be dyed.
21
Advantages of Winch Dyeing:
1. Construction and operation of winch are very simple. 2. Easy to enter and easy to operate and let out of the fabric of the m/c. 3. Suitable for dyeing of knitted fabric. 4. The appearance of the dyed goods is clean and smooth on winch dyeing machines. 5. Knitted fabric is not damage due to low tension.

Maintenance: Proper movement of winch: Winch should move freely. So we have to inspect it. Proper concentration: Without even concentration the dyeing will not give even shade. So we have to look at proper concentration of the dye bath. Temperature maintain: We have to maintain proper temperature of dye bath by steam or other utilities. So it should be maintained. Activate the valves: Different valves should be active properly. So we have to inspect them to prevent failure. Proper guide & tension: The guide roller & tension roller are bound to give proper guide & tension.
