What is Folk Tale/ Folk Lore? Folklore is a story with no known author. Folk tales are passed down from one generation to another by word of mouth.

What is a fairy tale? A fairy tale is a type of imaginative writing that carries the reader into an invented world where the laws of nature, as we know them, do not operate. The main character is usually a human. A fairytale usually starts with “Once Upon A Time”

What is a fable? A fable is a very brief story that teaches a moral or a practical lesson about how to succeed in life. The main character(s) are animals or objects that have been personified.

What is a legend? *Legends are about people and their actions or deeds. *The actions and deeds are greatly exaggerated and/or the historical events were changed. The purpose was to make the story/person more interesting or honor someone.

What is a Tall Tale? The story has many exaggerations The main character is bigger than life and has super-human abilities. The plot of the story is funny and impossible.

What is a myth? A myth is a story that usually explains something about the world –how things were created and involves gods and other superhuman beings.
