10. www.evl.uic.edu Security Planning at 2009 Presidential Inauguration Prior to Obama’s January 2009 inauguration, former Department of Interior (DOI) Secretary Dirk Kempthorne and now Secretary Ken Salazar were briefed by John Evans, US Geological Survey (USGS) information technology specialist, on security measures for Washington DC’s Mall area using EVL hardware and software. USGS has ultra-high-resolution digital maps of major US metropolitan areas – for use in disaster response and recovery, homeland security and/or public safety – which require EVL technology to see and use.
