They're in their car over there. Affect, Effect Affect as a verb means "to influence": It affected me strangely. As a noun, it is a technical term used in psychology to describe someone's emotional state. Effect as a noun means "result": It had a strange effect on me. As a verb, it means "to bring about" or "to cause": He's trying to effect change in government. Write a sentence that you would actually use for each of the following words. Be ready to share. 1. Rule 1: A subject will come before a phrase beginning with the word of. Example: A bouquet of yellow roses lend/lends color and fragrance to the room. Rule 2: Two singular subjects connected by or, either//or, or neither/nor require a singular verb. Example: My aunt or my uncle is/are arriving by train today. Neither Juan nor Carmen is/are available. Rule 3: As a general rule, use a plural verb with two or more subjects when they are connected by the word and. A car and a bike is/are my means of transportation. 1. The pack of lies (is/are) not going to cause me to change my mind. 2. My favorite team’s colors (is/are) orange and blue. 3. Here (is/are) two more factors to consider. 4. Neither the rain nor the darkness (is/are) going to stop me. 5. My staff believe/believes in providing high-quality service. 6. This is/are one of the things that bothers me about grammar. 7. Mary Lou asked that he take/takes out the trash. 8. Either the bikes or the lawn mower go/goes in that place. 9.
