Mrs. Wilhelm’s Kindergarten hlwilhelm@mpsomaha.org Learner Lane Writers Workshop August 18-22 Reminders Words of The Week This week our Heart Words have been: Iam Thank you for practicing these words at home with your little kinderbean. It has been a very busy first 10 days in kindergarten. In addition to beginning our curriculum. We are learning the routines and expectations in kindergarten. You will find a daily folder in your child’s back pack. This is to allow daily communication as to how your little one is doing with developing these life skills. Thank you for looking at, signing and returning your child’s Clip Chart Calendar folder everyday. They also receive a sticker for each day they return their signed folder. I greatly appreciate your support as we create a classroom of learners. Math: We began Unit 1. This week our focus was on directionality. Some of the words and concepts we worked on were top, middle bottom, inside outside, on, over, under, right and left. Language Arts: We read the story The Little School Bus by Carol Roth. Our Amazing Words this week were ordinal numbers 1-6. This is a concept we will be assessing in math for our report card in October. We also introduced A-G and their corresponding sound. Our focus skills this week have been rhyming words and character. Send me a note if the pick-up routine is different or changing. Wear or send tennis shoes everyday for P.E. Keep Clip Chart Calendar in your child’s back pack & sign daily. Read with your little one everyday. Return the Friday Folder every Monday. We learned all about our writers notebooks this week. We identified who they belong to. Where their “home” is in our classroom. Their many different parts. Lastly, the different materials we may use in them. Next week, we will begin learning what good writers do when they write.

High School Buddies Unit Studies Home work Volunteers Shout Outs! Save The Dates Tuesday, August 26 th Picture Day & PTA Meeting at 6:30pm Monday, September 1 st No School-Labor Day Thursday, September 4 th Curriculum night 6:30-7:30* *Parents ONLY Thank you so much to all of you who have volunteered to help either at home or in our classroom this year. It makes all the difference. I will be making a monthly volunteer calendar with the dates and times we are expecting you in our classroom. If you can’t make it please let me know in advance. You wanted to volunteer and haven’t gotten your form in? No Worries, send back the form or drop me an email with your availability. I would like to have my volunteers begin the first week of September. Look for the calendar next Friday, August 29 th. Science: What is a scientist? Scientists observe and write down what they see. They ask lots of questions and make predictions as to why things happen. You guessed it… Kindergarteners are AWESOME scientists. We will begin looking at living and non-living things next week. Social Studies: We are learning about listening. We looked at what our mouths do when we are listening? What about our bodies and ears? We practiced being good listeners through games and in our work. What can you do at home to support your child’s learning? Here are some suggestions. Practice on knowing their left from their right. Practice reading and writing our Heart Words: I am Writing the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg Listening carefully to directions the first time they are given. Thank you to Blake’s family for the wonderful snacks & water this week. Happy Birthday to our August Kinderbeans! Brendan, Skylar, & Landon! Next week we will meet our high school buddies for the first time. They will be coming to our classroom approximately ever two weeks for the semester. This is wonderful program for both the littles and bigs involved.
