English Speaking and Listening Learning protocols to use to be active listeners and how to engage in classroom discussions and group work. Public speaking – to speak clearly to an audience and practise spoken presentation skills. Critical reflection on learning and using peer and self assessment to improve learning outcomes. Debating.

English Reading & Viewing 1.Reading is modelled to the children daily through the use of quality literature, picture books, novels and digital texts. 2.Daily guided reading groups using levelled readers, school magazines which are designed to develop skills to read different types of text. We are also focusing explicitly on the 6 super comprehension strategies. (predicting, connecting, monitoring, summarising, questioning, visualising) 3.Independent reading completed daily through paired reading, DEAR, Library and reading homework – Lexiles. 4.Computer programs – such as READING EGGS are used regularly to support our quality teaching programs.

English Writing Aim for students to be involved in writing every day. Texts will focus on purpose e.g. Inform, Entertain and Persuade. We will be exploring writing using Concepts. Learning Journal – reflecting on learning experiences.

IMPORTANT DAYS TO REMEMBER Quality Teaching, Quality Learning, Quality People - for the 21 st Century Learner Centre - Our library is called the Learning Information and Research Centre - LIARC A library Bag is essential! Children can visit the library every 2 nd half of lunch, except Friday 3J Wednesday; 3W Monday; 4/3M Wednesday ;4B Monday; 4X Wednesday ; and 5/4R Tuesday NAPLAN – 10 th, 11 th and 12 th May for Years 3 and 5 TRAINING BAND Year 4 on Wednesday at 7:45am SCRIPTURE Thursdays 10.35 – 11.15 SPORT – Fridays, please ensure your child wears their sports uniform and sports shoes. Black shoes with correct uniform should be worn every other day. If they have training on any other day than Friday, then sports shoes are to brought to school in their bag and changed into. 3-6 ASSEMBLY – Even weeks, Friday 2.00 pm

Procedures Absences Note to explain absence is required the day child returns to school. (Proforma to use on our Website) Part absences – marked in roll as a partial absence. Late arrivals/ Early leavers need to go to office where a blue slip is required to be signed by a parent. Money to the office Money is collected by the office and not given to the teacher. Children put the money into the collection box in the front office before school, they will not be allowed during class time to do this. Parent helpers Declaration Form Sign in and out Confidentiality Excursions – we are in the process of organising excursions related to History or Science topics.
