Curriculum We cover the curriculum through topics; Autumn 1 – Enchanted Woodland Autumn 2 – Splendid Skies Spring 1 – Bright Lights Big City Spring 2 – Superhero's Summer 1 – Moon Zoom Summer 2 – Paws Claws and Whiskers

Reading We will listen to your child read a minimum of 3 times a week including a guided reading session. Please read every day with your child and sign the reading record. Only read a few pages Understanding of the text. Please refer to your booklet to focus on: language, structure, meaning etc. Encourage your child to use their phonics knowledge to help them read. Library – once a week, please keep in book bag.

Reading record Please communicate any concerns with regards to your child through their reading record. Remind your child that there is a note inside!

Writing Government changes…. No more levels, higher standards working towards expectations at expectations exceeding expectations

Writing Children should be at national expectations by the end of the year. Transcription: representation of language in written form (handwriting, spelling) Composition: the mechanics of writing (language knowledge, organisation, grammar) See booklet

Grammar Year 2 will have a spelling and grammar test at the end of the year. Preparations start in year 1 - new terms such as WOW word = adjectives

Maths Government changes…. working towards expectations at expectations exceeding expectations More focus on; Place value Number Times tables Problem solving calculations Look for opportunities to support when out and about.

Assessment/Testing On-going teacher assessment to inform planning. Start with working towards expectations End of year working at expectations (Some may be exceeding) Next steps for reading, writing and numeracy through pink and green marking. Phonics assessment is on-going and there is an end of year test – we will give you more information at the workshop.

Homework - Weekly Homework on Thursday- to be completed with child and handed in by the following Tuesday Parents can make a note if homework has been completed independently or with parent support. Pen (blue/black) – Literacy or writing. Pencil – maths and drawing.

Spellings given out on a Thursday to test the following Thursday. There will be also sentences to read and we ask your child to write sentences to show they understand the meaning. Spellings - Weekly

Parent Workshops Various KS1 parent workshops Thursday 15 th October – 8.55AM – PHONICS We encourage all parents to attend where possible as important information and resources will be given about how to support your child’s learning. Analysis of data has shown that children of parents who regularly attended workshops last year did extremely well by the end of the school year.

PE 1G and 1P-Thursday and Friday Full kit in school at all times. NO jewellery ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING NAMED! Please provide an outdoor games kit consisting of ankle length tracksuit bottoms, long sleeved top and trainers.

About the school We have an open door policy as much as possible. Please make an appointment if you need to speak to us after school or call to speak to me if you have any concerns that need addressing straight away. Extended leave – No holidays allowed. Fixed penalty notices £60.00 per child per parent, and spot checks. Appointments – outside of school time. Exceptional circumstances, need a card.

About the school Continued… Please drop off your child on the playground from 8.40am and collect your child promptly at 3pm. Attendance is vital and 100% attendance is our aim. If your child is ill please ring the absence line giving your child’s name and reason for absence. Registration is at 8.50am and any child after this is marked as late.

Healthy snacks Children can bring a healthy snack for morning playtime e.g fruit, cheese-strings, healthy cereal bar. We provide milk and a piece of fruit everyday, toast can be purchased for 20p on a Friday.

Golden Time! All children in the school must follow the golden rules. All children start the week on the sunshine! Children will lose Golden Time if their name is moved to the grey clouds.

Finally We want year 1 to be a fun filled year where every day matters to YOUR child. Thank you for coming!
