1 Essential question: How do I describe things in Spanish?

2  In Spanish, nouns have gender ◦ Masculine – refers to a guy or ends in –o ◦ Feminine – refers to a girl or ends in –a  To say “the” in Spanish, use the words “el” (masculine) or “la” (feminine)  To say “a” or “an” in Spanish, use the words “un” (masculine) or “una” (feminine)

3  Adjectives are words that describe nouns.  In Spanish, there are two big differences with how adjectives work ◦ Placement ◦ Agreement

4  Placement: ◦ In English, we put adjectives before the noun.  An honest student ◦ In Spanish, adjectives go AFTER the noun.  Un alumno honesto ◦ They can also go after the verb.  El muchacho es honesto. (The boy is honest)  La muchacha es honesta. (The girl is honest)

5  Agreement: In Spanish, adjectives have to agree, meaning that it has to match the gender of the noun. ◦ If a noun is masculine, use the masculine form of the adjective (use an –o ending) ◦ If the noun is feminine, use the feminine form of the adjective (use an –a ending)  Un muchacho tímido  Una muchacha tímida

6  Tell your pareja 5 details you have learned  With your pareja, write 4 questions on the left side of your notes and mark the answers on the right

7  Write in Spanish: ◦ A tall boy ◦ A serious girl ◦ A high school (both forms)

8  Un muchacho alto  Una muchacha seria  Un colegio secundario  Una escuela secundaria

9  What did you learn?  What was most important?  How does it relate to what you already know?  What was easiest?  What could me most challenging?
