2  Create a news story about the events from chapter 3 or 4.  Will your angle be hard news or gossip news?  Indicate which by pretending to be a reporter for either a hard news website or a gossip site.  Include the 5Ws– Who, What, Where, When, Why

3  Root Word of the Day  geo– earth or ground  Word of the Day  geophysics- science treating of the forces that modify the earth ▪ What other words can you come up with that have something to do with the earth or the ground that are spelled with the Greek root word “geo?”

4  Words that modify (change the description, therefore describe) nouns or pronouns  In chapter 4 locate five sentences with adjectives and copy them into your notebook. ▪ Circle the adjective ▪ Draw an arrow to the noun or pronoun that it modifies

5  A word that modifies an adjective, verb, or another adverb  In chapter 4 locate five sentences with adverbs and copy them into your notebook. ▪ Circle the adverb ▪ Draw an arrow to the adjective, verb, or another adverb that it modifies

6  Subject – the actor of the verb  Verb – a word of action or a word that shows state of being  The subject and the verb must agree in size and number.  Find a place on the first page of chapter one where the narrator breaks this rule.

7  A word that helps a noun or pronoun in the phrase give more information about another part of the sentence

8  A group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with the noun or pronoun that serves as the object of the preposition.

9  The noun or pronoun at the end of a prepositional phrase that the preposition is showing the relationship between another part of a sentence.  KEY  Preposition – red word  Prepositional phrase – underlined  Object of the preposition - green word  Sample from That Was Then, This Is Now  I had been hunting all over town for a job.

10  Pronoun – a word that takes the place of a noun  Antecedent – the word that the pronoun takes the place of  Agreement – the pronoun must agree with its antecedent in number, case, and gender

11  The pronoun that is linked to the subject through the linking verb

13  To receive half credit for your missed answers on a quiz, you must do the following.  Show me, in your notebook, a page labeled “Quiz Corrections.” Below the heading, include the following: 1.The question you missed 2.The correct answer 3.The date of the notes where the answer was given to you in advance (you can find that be going to “Logan Logic 2014” on my webpage). 4.A sentence explaining how you chose the wrong answer and how you intend to prevent this error in the future.
