2 The Antecedent  The antecedent is the noun that the pronoun refers to.  Example: After Marcus brushed his teeth, he went to bed.

3 Different Sentences  The antecedent doesn’t have to be in the same sentence as the pronoun.  Example: Phyliss was excited to get a new computer. It was a great gift.

4 Pronoun Agreement  A pronoun must agree with the antecedent in both gender and number.

5 Examples  Ramon has a new skateboard.  He took it to the skate park.  The girls bought new dresses.  They wore them to the school dance.
