11
Progress towards degree Need to be enrolled full time to practice or compete Need to pass 6 credits towards your degree each semester to be eligible the following semester GPA rules: –1-14 credits 1.80 –15-29 credits 1.90 –30+ credits 2.0 Need to pass 18 credits hours towards your degree to be eligible the following year Have to declare a major prior to 5 th semester Have to hit 40%, 60% and 80% of degree after 4 th, 6 th and 8 th semester THE KEY TO THIS; IF YOU ARE ONLY GETTING C’S IN 12 CREDITS PER SEMESTER, YOU ARE JEOPARDIZING YOUR ELIGIBILITY!
12
Seasons of Eligibility You have 5 years to compete for 4 seasons per sport: –Exceptions to this; Extension waivers- (getting a 6 th year) missed two seasons of competition due to injury Athletics activity waiver: Elite USOC equiv. athletes Hardship waiver- injured for remainder of season while only playing in 30% of contests and in first half of season ALWAYS TALK TO COMPLIANCE FOR OPTIONS BEFORE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS!!!
13
Other Eligibility Issues Everyone’s clock starts at the age of 21 –Some exceptions in sports like tennis; Redshirt simply means you didn’t compete for that season; it isn’t recognized as definition by the NCAA –If you step on the competition field for one second of action, one of your four seasons is used

Playing Seasons: Each Sport must declare a championship season Different rules per sport for length of season, however same rules govern each sport on “Countable Hours” Each week a coach must turn in a sheet declaring their “Countable Hours” At the beginning of each academic year they need to declare the seasons with all limitations applied(ie. # of Competitions, dates, etc.) Some sports have non-championship season where they are able to compete (VB, Tennis, Golf, Soc) 20 hours of practice per week in season, Off-season 8 per week, but only 2 on instruction
