Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation Please take a yellow packet. Sign up to volunteer. Write your child’s name on the purple conference schedule.

Mrs. Jilizian Grew up in Glendale, CA Attended Loyola Marymount University Started teaching in 1992 at a private school Came to Hugo Reid Elementary in 1997 (2 nd, 3 rd, kinder) Married and living in Montrose with two sons, Alex (16) and Jake (14) My husband is an Economics teacher at Hoover High School and the head men’s basketball coach at Glendale Community College.

Conferences Two per year-October and February Child attends in October Parent only in February Sign up before you leave. Write your child’s name. Regular Schedule NO MINIMUM Days

Volunteers TB test required; must turn in to the office The more help we have, the more we can do. Shutterfly and Book Orders Need one or two volunteers daily. Please sign up. Prep projects, stuff folders, run papers, assist in lab/library, help with painting etc. At home-prep projects

Library-Every Tuesday Once per week Whole Group Time- 10:30-11:00 Children will receive a library bag that needs to be returned every week. In order to check out a new book, the book from the previous week must be returned. Behavior problems will not be able to check out a book.

Schedule Please post the handout from the packet in a safe spot in your home. Wednesday-Early Release Day 11:15/1:20 Minimum Day-All kindergarteners arrive at 8:20 and dismiss at 11:55. 7:45-8:15 Child care provided in the MPR with Mrs. Tesfaye. Common Core Days: 8:20-11:40 See district website for dates.

Arrival and Dismissal Arrival-Park and meet at the front gate. Say goodbye when teacher arrives. Dismissal-Early Birds go to carpool line on DeAnza (see map). Lunch Bunch are picked up at the classroom door. Parents must park. Shining Stars- Students will use the bus. Other after school programs- Parent coordinates transportation and informs classroom teacher and primary office. Parents must inform after school program about minimum days, Common Core days and Wednesday schedule.

Minimum/ Common Core Days All Kindergartners come to school at 8:20. Dismissal: Use the carpool lane or meet your child on the grass area near DeAnza. DO NOT pick up your child at the classroom on these days. Lunch at home or order a sack lunch from the office.

Attendance Absence-call the office, send a note, or email: student’s full name, date, reason for absence and room number to: hugoreidattendance@ausd.net Tardy-If the class is already inside, please take your child to the office to get a tardy pass before they come to class. Independent Study-If your child will be gone for 5 or more days, parents must pick up an independent study form from the office at least one week in advance of trip. All work must be returned the day the child arrives back at school.

Field Trips Two field trips per year-donations collected for cost of event and bus October 14th-Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark Animal and pumpkin patch tour and hay ride 3 volunteers needed per class- TB test required Spring Field Trip- TBA

Homework Packets will come home on Mondays and should be returned on Fridays in the red Hugo Reid folder. Do not lose this. Homework reinforces responsibility and reviews skills learned in class. Reading Record will be attached to the front of the packet. Children should be read to daily for at least 20 minutes. Sit with your child while doing homework. Check their work and keep your expectations high. All writing and math should be done neatly in pencil. Supplies needed at home: crayons, glue, scissors, pencil Provide additional help/practice as needed. All About Me Poster-practice sharing Monday Morning-Share about your weekend

What is Common Core? District Website/Three Minute Video http://site.ausd.net Math will be a combination of manipulatives, pencil paper, and technology enriched lessons. Benchmark tests in Reading and Math will be completed on the computer 3 times a year. Scores will be sent home. Practice keyboarding skills at home.
