MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Pender Public School District is to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all students to become productive and responsible citizens.

NSAA UNIFIED SPORTS The NSAA established a statewide committee to study participation opportunities for students with disabilities and what those opportunities might look like That committee made a recommendation to the NSAA Board of Directors that Unified Sports should be the first avenue for providing those participation opportunities for students with disabilities Unified Sports teams are comprised of students with and without intellectual disabilities to participate on a high school team The NSAA board will be making a decision soon about adding Unified Sports, Bowling in the 2016-17 school year If and wen the NSAA makes this program available to schools, Pender will have to determine if adding a program of that nature is in the best interest of the school district

RULE 10 AND RULE 11 REPORTS Rule 10 Report The Rule 10 Report is now an online report A new component called an Evidence Based Analysis (EBA) is required for schools The EBA is a component of AQuESTT Mr. Miller, Mrs. Ballinger, and I plan to complete the EBA for PPS, PHS, and PES prior to the November 1 deadline. Rule 11 Report Complete and submitted No new formatting Please let me know if you would like to see either of these reports

TITLE IX TRAINING Mr. Nixon and I attended Title IX Training in Wakefield on October 7 Karen Haase provided the training from ESU 2 in Fremont Title IX addresses discrimination, harassment, and retaliation Since we receive federal funds (Title 1, Title IIA), we have to comply with Title IX guidelines The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) intervenes when Title IX issues arise The OCR recently hired an additional 800 employees, so they will be looking for compliance issues I plan to work with Mr. Nixon, Mr. Miller, and Mrs. Ballinger to develop a better understanding of our Title IX policies and requirements

STATE OF THE SCHOOLS REPORT Publically released October 16 A component of the report is a Federal Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) rating Pender’s rating is “Not Met” for the second consecutive year which means we are not in a “Needs Improvement” status Almost every school in Nebraska is in the same predicament One subgroup did not meet The AYP rating is based on NCLB’s expectation that ALL students meet or exceed the standards on ALL NeSA assessments While Pender does not meet this expectation, our students perform well on NeSA assessments Amongst the many requirements of be classified as “Needs Improvement”, I have to write a letter to parents explaining our situation
