Quick Write: What’s a memorable experience you’ve had with poetry? Reading it, writing it, memorizing it… Describe how you felt about the poem(s), about poetry in general. Write a little story. :)

Unit Calendar/Overview Format for each day. Reading journal options. Ten, fifteen minutes TOPS. (I’m serious.) Overview of assignments and due dates. Brief glance at final paper prompt for the unit.

Vocabulary There is a lot. It’s not fun. It’s useful to know. Study the list (flashcards, whatever). There will be a quiz on Monday. :D

Prosody Because I already know I’ll pronounce this wrong—and I don’t want you to do it too—we say the word “prosody” like this: praw-zuh-dee (Think “awe” in awesome.) Now you can look at your vocab list.

Discuss in your groups (of 4): What elements of prosody do you see? What effect do they have on you? How do they make you feel? What did you like about the poem? What did you dislike about the poem?

Homework: Read and annotate: “Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers” “So Much Happiness” Write reading journals 4 and 5.
