Working with Solutions
2
Solution All solutions have two parts. 1.Solvent 2.Solute The solvent is the largest part of the solution. The solute is smaller in amount and dissolves.
3
Do you remember from discussing atoms and molecules…. What is a mixture?
4
Solution Saturated Solute Solvent
5
Solution The final mixture of the solute and solvent – Solute + Solvent = Solution Demo: Solution is the red colored water afer mixing in Kool-Aid. So which one is the Solute and which is the solvent?
6
Solute The material being dissolved (smallest amount in the solution) Tea/Sugar Demo: Which on is the solute?
7
Solvent The material doing the dissolving (the largest part of a solution) Kool-Aid Demo: Which is the solvent in this situation?
8
Saturated When solvent cannot dissolve any more solute. Paper Towel Demo

Foldable Instructions Each “flap” page must follow these directions: 1. Outside flap: Write one of the 4 “s” words. 2. Inside must include: - Drawing of the “s” word - A written example of the “s” word - A definition of the “s” word *You will need a flap for all 4 of the “s” words **You must use color to enhance the foldable. ***When complete you must glue it into your foldable in the same section as your notes.
