Cells
3
Everyday cells must do the following: 1. Energy consumption 2. Protein production 3. Waste management
4
Organelles - in cytoplasm Have different jobs
5
Cell Membrane ( C ity Military) Flexible Decides what goes in and out of the cell
6
Cell Wall (City Wall) – “Only” in plant cells Gives cell support Rigid outer layer in plant cells
7
Nucleus (Mayor Nu Cleus) – Command Center -”Boss” - guided by DNA
8
DNA (blueprints) – holds all the information for your body’s instructions for life
9
DNA (blueprints) tells ribosomes what proteins to make & when to make them.
10
– mixture of chemicals and water Jell-O like fluid Holds organelles Cytoplasm (Lawns & air)
11
Ribosome (Ri Bose’s Pro Factory) – Protein factories Make proteins 2 parts: on ER & in cytoplasm
12
* Cells need protein for everything they do.
13
Endoplasmic Reticulum (E Rt: transportation) Looks like a ribbon Moves 1. Food 2. Water 3. Waste products
14
Mitochondria (Mike’s Mit O’chondria Power Plant) Breaks down food & releases energy (Site of Cellular Respiration)
15
ATP is energy to me!
16
Chloroplasts (Ms Chloro’s Solar Power Plant) – Only in plant cells Gets energy from the sun & changes it to food Gives green color to plants Where photosynthesis occurs
17
Golgi Bodies (Golgi’s packing & shipping) Flat sacks Packs proteins for shipping to body
18
Vacuoles (Vicki’s Storage Vacs) - Stores 1. Food 2. Water 3. Waste products NOTE: plants have large vacuoles
19
Lysosome (Trash & Recycling) Breaks down & Recycles 1. Food 2. Cell waste 3. Worn out cell parts
20
Which organelle is the most important?
21
Which organelle would you fire & how would that affect your city?
