2 Proportion of seniors in Ontario is trending upwards  In Canada: In 2011, 14.6% were 65+ and predicted to grow to 25% in 2036  Burlington's age profile has traditionally been older than that of Ontario  In 2011: 16.9% of Burlington’s population was over 65

3 What’s being done?  A number of healthy aging strategies and frameworks have since been developed by provincial governments across Canada  All underscore the importance of responding to the growing and complex needs of an aging population across a wide range of policy areas  We want to do the same

4 Who we are  The Burlington Seniors' Advisory Committee is a citizen committee reporting to Council through the Community and Corporate Services Committee.  The committee is made up of 10 members representing citizens, community stakeholders, one Council representative and staff for support.

6 What we do  Represent Burlington seniors' perspectives on municipal and other key seniors' issues  Provide a voice for Burlington seniors, exchanging information about current issues and emerging concerns  Respond to the community's seniors' needs, subject to the evolution of relationships with other groups  Create and execute an annual work plan

7 Accomplishments in 2014/2015  Seniors citizens survey – Need new Senior Program centers East/West Burlington – Concerns over Housing and Transportation  Developed database of all private and public stakeholders  Participated in community events – Health and Wellness Fair – Seniors Day

8 2016 Representative on the Active Aging Steering Committee – Focus: address social and civic needs of older adults in Burlington Explore ways to financially ease public transportation for seniors

10 Looking for new partnerships Help increase awareness of BSAC in the community Let us be your voice with City Council – Tell us your needs and wants – We will advocate on behalf of seniors Help identify ways for BSAC to communicate back to the community
