3  The coordinates of a point P on the coordinate plane can be described by its distance r from the origin O, and the angle θ that OP makes with the positive x-axis. When the a ngle θ (between 0º and 360º) is measured counterclockwi se from the positive x-axis, the angle is in standard positio n. The ray OP is the terminal arm of the angle and the poin t P is terminal point for the angle.

4  The Reference Angle of all 4 angles (90°, 180°, 270°, and 360°) is the acute angle that the terminal arm makes with the x-axis.

5  For any angle θ in standard position, where 0º =< θ =< 360º, with terminal point P(x, y), the primary trigonometric ratios are:  Cos θ = x/r r = √(x 2 +y 2 )  Sin θ = y/r  Tan θ = y/x
