National Public Health Accreditation New national, voluntary process launched September 2011 Multi-step, multi-year process requiring plans, documented proficiency in the 10 essential services of public health and a commitment to ongoing quality improvement Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is the national organization charged with administering the public health accreditation program

Public Health Accreditation Board Goal: to improve and protect the health of every community by advancing the quality and performance of public health departments (state, local, Tribal, territorial). 11

Accreditation Process Overview 1.Pre-application Submit a Statement of Interest (SOI) 2.Application Application form with pre-requisites 3.Document Selection and Submission Applicant selects documentation and submits it to E-PHAB for review 4.Site Visit Site visit is conducted by a team of peers and report developed 5.Accreditation Decision PHAB Board will award accreditation status for 5 years if successful 6.Reports - department submits annual reports 7.Reaccreditation (5 years) AchieveAchieve Maintain

How will CDPH Tackle Accreditation? Three pre-requisites (application process) State/Community Health Assessment (CHA), State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) Department-wide Strategic Plan Build department knowledge on accreditation requirements Identification of and implementation of a Performance Management System Hire dedicated staff to coordinate accreditation activities Will take a village!
