2  To learn that the structure of a countries population can be shown using a population pyramid.  To learn the population pyramid shapes of countries at different stages of the DTM.  Key Skill = Number

3  Use sketches to help you illustrate the shapes of population pyramids in stages 2, 3 & 4 of the DTM.  Using named examples explain the different shapes of each pyramid.

4  For Uganda, India & the UK: ◦ What is the male population under 10? ◦ What is the female population over 80? ◦ What is the total young dependent population? ◦ What is the total old dependent population?

9  What government policies has the state of Kerala in India introduced to reduce population growth?  Why have these reduced birth rates?

10  What problems does the UK face as it enters stage 5 of the DTM?  How has the UK government taken action to avoid these problems?
