2 Unit 11: Waves Monday, 3/21 Pick up a warm-up sheet and the Spring fever article and do the following:  Read the article (do not write on it)  Commit to three things you will do to combat ‘spring fever’ and finish the year strong with pride. Write your commitments on your warm-up Upcoming dates:  Friday, 4/1 – waves quiz.  Monday, 4/11 – waves quiz  Wednesday, 4/13 – Waves test and all missing waves work is due (missing work is a zero after you test)  Tuesday, 4/19 – EM Spectrum/Optics quiz  Wednesday, 4/27 - EM Spectrum/Optics quiz  Friday, 4/29 – EM Spectrum/Optics test all missing EM Spectrum/Optics work is due (missing work is a zero after you test)  Monday, 5/9 – Atomic Physics test all missing Atomic physics work is due (missing work is a zero after you test)  Tuesday, 5/17 – Rube Goldberg Project due (test grade)  Monday, 5/23 – Bottle Rocket launch day  Tuesday, 5/31 – Exam review due (it is 30% of your exam grade)

7 Tsunami  As you watch the video think about the following:  What causes the Tsunami?  What role does energy play if any?  What relevance does the velocity of the wave have on the destruction?  What happens to the water after the Tsunami strikes? Tsunami Video

9 Generic reason: a pulse (single disturbance)

10 Large magnitude (speed) and direction results in a large force (F = ma) and a transfer from PE to KE.

11 Mechanical waves transport energy through a medium. The wave is the energy and the water is the medium through Which it is transported.

12 EQ: What causes wave motion?  Read through your CNs  Highlight, underline, or circle the words associated with how a wave is created and what a wave is.  Highlight, underline, or circle the words that describe the purpose of a medium and how it functions.

15 Types of Waves  There are two types of waves  Type of wave is dependent on whether it requires a medium.  Mechanical waves require a medium  Electromagnetic waves do not require a medium.
