Summary of Finding a Stationary Point 1. Differentiate 2. Form an equation for =0 and find value(s) of 3. Substitute back intoto find the y values If you need to determine the nature (type) of the stationary point(s) 4.Differentiate again to obtain the formula for 5.Substitute the x value(s) you found into and look at its sign If then the turning point is a Minimum point If then the turning point is a Maximum point If then we can draw no conclusion
