Electricity for Second Year High School Students Catherine S. Lara
2
Unit Summary In this subject, the second year high school students will learn all about basic electricity and electronics which includes electron theory, sources of energy, and kinds of circuit, voltage, current, resistance, electrical conductors and resistors.
3
Student Objectives/ Learning Outcomes Explain the electron theory. Determine the sources of electricity. Differentiate the two kinds of circuit. Describe the relationship of voltage, electricity and resistance.
4
Solve problems regarding resistance, electricity and voltage using the series and parallel connections. Identify the electrical conductors and insulators.
5
Projects Essay Informative lecture using a multimedia presentation on the sources of energy (by group) Parallel and series circuits (by group)
6
Assessment Tools Before project work begins K-W-L Chart Think Pair Share Rubrics Score Guides Checklists
7
Assessment Tools Students work on projects and complete tasks Rubrics Score Guides Checklists
8
Assessment Tools After project work is completed Rubrics Score guides Checklists
9
Schedule of Activities Week 1 Day 1 oThink Pair Share on the question “How can you make life easier” and an essay on “Can you live without Electricity?”. Day 2 o Discussion on electron theory followed by an oral recitation.
10
Week 2 Day 1 oContinuation of oral recitation oGroupings for the informative lecture on the sources of energy. oSpend time to the library for research Day 2 oContinue preparing for the informative lecture.
11
Week 3 Day 1 oInformative lecture on the different sources of energy. oEvaluation of the presentation. oA research on series and parallel circuits as a home work. Day 2 oRecap of the past lessons oDiscussion on series and parallel circuits. oAsk the students to bring materials for the next project.
12
Week 4 Day 1 oMake a project plan for the series and parallel circuits and work on the project afterwards. Day2 oWork on the series and parallel circuits with respective groups.
13
Week 5 Day 1 oPass the finished projects. oContinue with the discussion on the definition and relationship of voltage, electricity and resistance oQuiz oResearch home work on the insulators and conductors. Day 2 oChecking of the assignments oDiscussion on the insulators and conductors oShort quiz
