I NSULATION I T IS THE PROCESS OF KEEPING HEAT, SOUND, OR ELECTRICITY FROM SPREADING. I T ' S ALSO THE MATERIAL USED TO DO SO. I F YOU CAN HEAR YOUR NEIGHBOR SNORING AT NIGHT, YOU MIGHT NEED BETTER SOUND INSULATION Types: 1)LAGGING used to wrap around pipes or boilers or laid in attics to prevent loss of heat 2)CORKBOARD a heat-insulating building material consisting of cork granules that are made into sheets by compressing and baking 4
5
5 There are plenty of cheap and common insulation materials available on the market today. Many of these have been around for quite some time. Each of these insulations have their own ups and downs. As a result, when deciding which insulation material you should use, you should be sure to be aware of which material would work the best in your situation 1) FIRE 2) WATER 3) THARMAL
6
6 FIRE INSULATION We have considered differences like R-value, price, environmental impact, flammability, sound insulation and other factors below. Here are the 5 most common types of insulation materialsR-value

W ATER RESISTANCE : D AMPNESS : THE EXCESS ENTRY OR PENETRATION OF MOISTURE INSIDE A BUILDING THROUGH ITS FLOORS, WALLS, ROOFS IS CALLED DAMPNESS. Dampness is dangerous both for inmates, building. Due to dampness the building become unygienis. Dampness in building is a risk factor for health effect. 7
8
PEELING OFF : THIS TERM IS RELATED TO PLASTER AND IT MEANS THAT THE PLASTER SURFACE GET DISFIGURED. BLISTERED: These term are related to painting DPC: It is a continuous layer of impervious material between source of dampness and building component. 8
9
C AUSES OF DAMPNESS : Rain penetration Level of site Drainability of the soil Climatic condition Defective conditions Entraped moisture in the building Defective construction material Defective construstion Moisture originates in the building 9
10
R AIN PENETRATION : I T IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF DAMPNESS. HEAVY RAIN OF SHORT DURATION IN LESS DANGEROUS. RAIN WATER ENTERS THROUGH JOINTS. Level of site : Low laying building sites are effected by the depositing surface water and underground water. Drainability of the soil : course grained soils like sandy or gravely soils provides good drainability condition and fine grained soil lik retain water. Climatic codition :in cold climatic dampness causes due to condensation of water vapors. Defective orientation: if building is exposed to direct rain showers and less sun ray then it cause dampness. 10
11
E NTRAPPED MOISTURE IN THE BUILDING : DUE TO OVER SOAKED BRICKS AND USE OF SALTY OR ALKALINE WATER RESULTR DAMPNESS IN BUILDING. Defective orientatio:If building is exposedto direct rain showers and less sun rays then it cause dampness. Entrapped moisture in the building:due over soaked bricks use of salty or alkaline water results dampness in building. 11
12
E FFECTS OF DAMPNESS : Building become esthetically poor. It cause dry rot to the wooden members provided in the building. Plaster peels off. Un hygienic condition in building. It cause corrosion of metals used in building. Holes and pits are fprmed in topping of floors. 12
13
T HERMAL INSULATING MATERIAL : Slab or block insulation. Blanket insulation. Loose fill insulation. Bat insulating material. Insulating board. 13
14
S LAB OR BLOCK INSULATION. T HESE MAY BE MADE OF CORK BOARD, MINERAL WOOL VERMICULITE, CELLULAR GLASS. Blanket insulation.: these are flexible fibrous rolls made from mineral wool, cotton etc. Loose fill insulation.:these may consist of fibrous matireal like rock wool, slag wool etc. Bat insulating materials.: these are similar to blanket insulation except that these are small in size but of greater thickness. Insulating boards.: these are used for interior lining of wall, and also for partition wall. 14
15
A DVANTAGES OF THERMAL INSULATION : Comfort. Thermal insulation keeps the room cool in summer and hot in winter. Fuel saving since heat transfer is minimised due to thermal insulation, less fuel is required to maintain the desired temperature in the room. Use of thermal insulating material prevent the freezing of water taps in extreme winter, and heat loss in case of hot water system. 15
