1 Question of the Day #27 An object is moving in a horizontal circle due to a string creating a force toward the center. Is this object accelerating? Explain. If the string breaks, what path does the object take? (This is a top view) Why? Dec 7 Today’s Activities -Ch 5 Uniform circular motion notes -Practice problems Homework: -None All people needing to take the Ch 4 test will do so in class TOMORROW

2 No QD today Dec 8 Today’s Activities -Practice problems -Concept Development Practice Pages Homework: -Concept Development due Thursday Ch 5 Test on Dec 17

3 Question of the Day #28 A car rounds a curve at a constant 70km/h and another of equal mass rounds it at a constant 80km/h. Are their accelerations the same? Explain. Dec 9 Today’s Activities -New books -Conceptual development practice Homework: -Concept development practice due tomorrow -Ch 4 test stuff due Dec 16 Ch 5 Test on Dec 17 Ch 4 Test: both due on Dec 16 Required Homework Assignment: In a different color than what you originally took the test in, provide the correct answer (including work if necessary). Optional Extra Credit Assignment to Recover ½ your lost test points: On a separate sheet of paper, explain WHY the correct ANSWER is correct or WHAT the correct PROCESS is. This should take 2-3 sentences per question.

4 Example for Optional Assignment M.P. 1. The correct answer is false because of Newton’s 3 rd law. The SUV and the small hybrid must exert equal and opposite forces on each other. The SUV is more massive so accelerates less, but they both experience the same force. S.A. 2. The boat is being pulled 40 degrees up and -37degrees. Using those angles, you can get the x and y components. Then use Pythagorean theorem to get the resultant and arctangent for angle. Finally, plug it into F=ma.
