Since 1995, over 100 scholarships have been awarded to NC MIA Member’s children This year, there were 11 Applicants Of these, two were awarded $1000 scholarships, and five were awarded $750 scholarships Of the seven applicants receiving awards, three were repeat winners from last year who maintained outstanding achievements both in the classroom and outside the classroom

Carol is the daughter of Forrest and Janet Fleming. Forrest is the Director of Inspections for the Town of Morrisville. He is a past President of NCMIA, and an outstanding supporter of the organization over the years. Carol has maintained an excellent GPA through her undergraduate and graduate degrees, and is now entering Law School at Campbell University where she is pursuing a law degree in order to become a criminal defense attorney. Carol’s references spoke highly of her intelligence, work ethic, dedication, organization and attention to detail. Lauren is the daughter of John Gold, Cleveland County Inspector. She is a rising Junior at Gardner-Webb University this fall, where she is majoring in Nursing She has maintained an excellent grade point through her first two years at college, in addition to taking part time work as a CNA at a pediatrics clinic in Gastonia. Lauren’s references spoke highly of her intelligence, self-discipline, motivation, compassion and accountability. Lauren received her first NCMIA Scholarship in 2013. Forrest is the son of Forrest and Janet Fleming. Forrest is the Director of Inspections for the Town of Morrisville, and brother of Carol. Forrest has performed very well in his High School career, and is well- positioned for further success at Appalachian State University where he will be majoring in Architectural Technology and Design. Forrest’s references spoke highly of his willingness to pitch-in and work, his leadership and his fun-loving personality. Forrest is also a talented athlete, singer and dancer. John is the son of John Carr and Wendy Carr of Louisburg. John (the Dad) is Inspections Director for the Town of Wake Forest. John Carr is a rising Sophomore at East Carolina University where he transferred after a Freshman year at Kerr-Vance Academy. He is majoring in Biology which he is using as preparation for work in the medical field. He is maintaining a 3.6 GPA and competing in club LaCrosse. John’s references spoke of his passion for learning, critical thinking ability, work ethics and his compassion for others. John is an avid reader and has worked summers at a local auto shop. Jacob is the son of Jason and Christy Ruff of Forest City, NC. Jason Ruff is Director of Inspections for Rutherford County, NC. Jacob is a rising Sophomore at Western Carolina University. Jacob’s intended profession is Mechanical Engineering. Jacob has been active in his school and community, performing service work with the Salvation Army and United Methodist Youth group. His hobbies include football, guitar, and restoring classic cars with his father. Jacob’s references speak of his self-motivation, respectfulness, and problem solving skills. Brittany Faulkner is the daughter of Perry and Laura Faulkner of Nashville, NC. Mr. Perry Faulkner is a code official with Franklin County. Ms. Brittany Faulkner is a rising Senior at Barton College. Her intended vocation is nursing. Ms. Faulkner has maintained very high grades at Barton college, and has been on Dean’s List and President’s List. She is active in student ministries and is a Certified Nurse Aide level 1. Her references speak of her loyalty, caring, work ethic and class preparation. Allyson Naylor is the daughter of Michael and Laura Naylor of Stedman, NC. Michael is a mechanical and multi-trade inspector for Cumberland County. Allyson is a rising Sophomore at the University of NC at Wilmington. Her intended vocation is Forensic Anthropology. Her first year of college was very productive, and she earned a 3.4 GPA, and was active in the Anthropology and Paranormal club Her references speak of her confidence, maturity, and commitment to her studies.
