Learning Objectives I can explain how volcanic eruptions can affect climate. I can explain how volcanic eruptions can affect climate. I can compare the three types of volcanoes. I can compare the three types of volcanoes. I can compare craters, calderas, & lava plateaus. I can compare craters, calderas, & lava plateaus.

Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions Volcanic Eruptions & Climate Change Volcanic Eruptions & Climate Change - when volcanoes erupt, they can spread enough ash & gases in the atmosphere to block sunlight which can cause global temperatures to drop!
3
Ch.6, Sec. 2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions Different Types of Volcanoes Different Types of Volcanoes - there are three different types of volcanoes: shield, cinder cone, and composite 1. Shield Volcano: these are built from layers of lava released from repeated nonexplosive eruptions
4
Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions 2. Cinder Cone Volcano: these form from pyroclastic material produced from moderately explosive eruptions and they usually erode quickly over time
5
Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions 3. Composite Volcano: sometimes called stratovolcanoes are formed from explosive & nonexplosive pyroclastic eruptions

Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions

Other Types of Volcanic Landforms Other Types of Volcanic Landforms - volcanic activity can also create three other types of landforms, other than volcanoes: craters, calderas, and lava plateaus crater: a funnel-shaped pit near the top of the central vent of a volcano
8
Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions caldera: a large, semicircular depression that forms when the magma chamber below a volcano partially empties and causes the ground above to sink
9
Ch.6, Sec.2 - Effects of Volcanic Eruptions lava plateau: a wide, flat landform that results from repeated nonexplosive eruptions of lava that spread over a large area
