According to the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance, a ‘monument’ is a place, building, site or structure which is declared to be a monument, historical building or archaeological or palaeontological site or structure. Unless granted a permit by the Antiquities Authority, no person is allowed to carry out any building works, demolition or any action that interfere with the monument.
