Feedback from Educators and Trainers Overall extremely positive… – Design and functionality of the App was excellent – Very motivating for learning – Embedded audio files were very useful – Helps to improve pronunciation as delivered by native speakers – Could be linked to school curricula – has real potential to address a number of subject areas Highly praised by the majority of teachers
3
Feedback from Educators and Trainers The use of a graphic novel as a didactic tool was considered highly innovative, engaging and novel Praise for the design of the app and illustrations contained within – captured the characterisation perfectly: – Illustrations of the characters – Mannerism, facial expressions, style
4
Feedback from Educators and Trainers Feedback on the didactic materials – Informative, relevant and “to the point” – Four modules were succinct and sufficient – PPT were neither overly long or complicated – Practical in nature Only comment in terms of improvement: is how to integrate mobile learning within the classroom (for more traditional approaches to learning: benefits, ease of use, etc.)
5
Testing in Action
6
Testing with Students Let’s Go Mental – our key message “that learning can be fun and not stressful or worrisome” Used Module 3 & 4 as the framework for the learning 9 learners (6 girls : 3 boys) – Between ages of 14 to 17 years
7
Testing with Students Very positive feedback Loved the graphics in the novel and the story – they thought it was believable and not to clichéd Would really like to see this type of approach to learning brought into “regular” classes Some of the students – needed some support and prompting to complete the exercises
8
Recommendations for Next Phase Available on android and iPhone to increase access and usability Some teachers expressed reservations about the use of mobile phones in the classroom – balance between learning support or classroom distraction
