The Rosary In Honor of Our Lady
2
Worship, Veneration & Mary Roman Catholics are monotheistic. As such, we believe in one God. Christians in general worship the One God in Three Divine Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But Catholics also have a special place in their hearts for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
3
We venerate or give a special place of honor (short of worship) to the woman who bore Christ and first presented Him to the world. She is Queen of all the saints and the Mother of God. She is the ultimate model for all disciples of Our Lord.

History of the Rosary Rosarium, L.: rose garden. In early Christian days, the wealthy and educated would pray the 150 psalms of the Old Testament, following from our Jewish roots. The poor and uneducated, however, had no means to enter this devotion.

The practice of praying 150 Hail Mary’s (a common and easily recognizable prayer) in place of the psalms developed in Europe. According to tradition, St. Dominic (founder of the Order of Preachers) received the first rosary beads from the Blessed Mother in a vision in the year 1214

Today, there is a resurgence in the popularity of the rosary as a Catholic devotion. Families pray the rosary together. Even by oneself, the rosary is a rather quick way to devote one’s time in honor of the perfect disciple. It takes about 15 minutes or 1% of the total time in a 24 hour day.
