Yet it is a broader definition since it is defined differently in relation to deferent semiotic schools. Social semiotics derives from the work of M.A.K Halliday Systemic Functional Grammar.

Representation focuses on the quality of the information either true or fales, real or fantasist. Social interaction interprets differences of social truth among cultures

Social semiotics deal withe the semiotic resources that deals with both modes.Modality deals with the representation of truth and falesness and social representation issues of truth among different cultures.One the formes of Modality which deals with such issues of representation is Visual Modality.
