Janet Mock Mock is very conscious of her pronouns and how people think of women within the western world. In many interviews, she corrects people’s misconstrued notion that she was a male or a boy until her surgery; and at times using her successful surgery as a mark of her womanhood. Janet knows that she was always a woman, even if society viewed her as a male before her alignment. Janet Mock was a man up until the age of 18 years old. Now she’s a beautiful woman with a successful career as an American writer and author. She is also an advocate for Transgenders.

But her issues intersect with her transgender status. One of the biggest backlash is the assumption that Ms. Cox is not a woman. Within the show, she is given a role of power in educating the rest of the women about their own female anatomy. A lot of viewers and magazines alike insist that her existence is predetermined by the gender binary. “Is it really a sign that we “love everything about ourselves” [...] if we alter our bodies through surgery and hormones? It seems clear that “radical self-acceptance” is not at all what Cox is experiencing or conveying to her audience. If women or transwomen were truly allowed to love themselves, I doubt they’d be spending thousands and thousands of dollars sculpting their bodies in order to look like some cartoonish version of “woman,” as defined by the porn industry and pop culture.” ~ Meghan Murphy, Author of Feminist Current.

Blake Brockington Blake Brockington is a shining example of how queer kids can assimilate to mainstream society. He was crowned prom King and was able to fundraise 2,355.55 dollars for his school. This is the first time an openly transgendered youth has done so in Charlotte. He wanted to set an example for future Trans Boys. Within the month of march, Blake died due to a suicide. His legacy will not die, no matter how short it maybe. Blake became an outspoken advocate, speaking against police brutality and violence through Trangender’s Day of Remembrance in an attempt to rally organizations to this cause. He has adversity for his gender identity. He lived with his foster parents because his biological parents could not accept his gender identity.
